After attending upon the vetting committee on Thursday 30th January 2025, Parliament has officially approved Dr. Rashid Pelpuo as the new Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment and Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing as the upper west regional minister respectively .

Pelpuo’s approval has been met with optimism from various stakeholders and labour unions, who are hopeful that Dr. Pelpuo will bring innovative solutions and a dedicated approach to the pressing issues in the labour industry.

Key Areas of Focus for Dr. Rashid Pelpuo:

Salary Negotiations

Dr. Pelpuo is expected to initiate meaningful discussions for salary increments for public sector workers, aiming to ensure better compensation and benefits for employees.

Minimum Wage Discussions:
Another priority for the new minister is to engage in minimum wage negotiations, a critical aspect in improving the livelihood of workers across the country.

CETAG Migration into University Pay Structure:
Addressing the ongoing issue of CETAG’s migration into the university pay structure will also be a key focus, with efforts to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all education sector workers.

NDC 24-Hour Economy Policy:
Dr. Pelpuo will play a significant role in developing and implementing policies for the NDC’s 24-hour economy, aimed at creating a more productive and dynamic economy.

Job Creation and Unemployment:
Tackling unemployment through effective job creation initiatives is also at the top of the agenda, along with improving labour conditions across all sectors
