The Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) have jointly called on the Minister-designate for Labor, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid H. Pelpuo, to prioritize immediate discussions on salary and minimum wage for public sector workers once confirmed by Parliament.

Both unions have raised concerns about delays in the determination of base pay and minimum wage, highlighting that further postponements could lead to payment arrears and agitations from workers. TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah emphasized that urgent action is required, stating, “Base pay is waiting, minimum wage is waiting. I have written to the ministry and asked them to wait for the new minister to engage with the tripartite committee to determine the appropriate rates.”

Ansah further stressed that the minister-designate should avoid rushing to the National Labour Commission (NLC) for dispute resolution and should instead focus on addressing issues collaboratively to maintain labor relations in the country. He noted, “Workers are upset when they feel that every issue is escalated to the NLC, and they believe the new minister should play a proactive role in resolving these matters.”

Additionally, CLOGSAG Executive Secretary has raised concerns about the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), accusing them of overstepping their mandate. He criticized the Commission for engaging in auditing tasks and attempting to migrate employees to other services without proper authority. He also called for a shake-up within the FWSC to ensure it adheres to its prescribed mandate and roles.
