Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has sacked the country’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Mazuba Monze, following allegations of misconduct. The decision was made after reports surfaced that Ms. Monze had made an inappropriate request to a male staff member at the Zambian Mission in Pretoria.
According to sources, the High Commissioner allegedly asked a Zambian staff member to shave her private parts, a request that was deemed highly undiplomatic and unprofessional. The staff member, who reportedly refused the request, stated that shaving was not part of his duties, especially when it came to shaving ambassadors or any personal, private matters.
In response, Ms. Monze allegedly described the refusal as disobedience and an act of insubordination, which led her to terminate the staff member’s employment.
The staff member appealed the dismissal, which led to the matter being brought to the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Upon verifying the allegations, President Hichilema took swift action and fired Ms. Monze from her post as High Commissioner, citing the need to maintain professionalism and decorum in Zambia’s diplomatic missions.
However, as the situation unfolded, some reports suggested that the allegations against Ms. Monze may have been exaggerated or even fabricated by her detractors. According to the Maravi Post, a concerned Zambian living in South Africa has come forward, claiming that the allegations against Ms. Monze were part of a campaign to discredit her. The individual suggests that false reports and fabrications were used to orchestrate her dismissal, raising questions about the true nature of the incident.
