The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won all 11 Parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region during the just-ended 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. This resounding victory is attributed to the strategic leadership of Regional Chairman Abdul-Nasir Saani, popularly known as Bunas, and his team.
The Upper West Region has long been an NDC stronghold. In 2012, the party achieved the same feat of winning all 11 seats under the leadership of Matthew Sung-Aabu MaTco. However, the 2016 parliamentary elections were a turning point, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning 5 out of the 11 seats in the region, a significant dent in the NDC’s dominance.
The NDC fought back in the 2020 elections, reclaiming two seats from the NPP to increase their tally to 8 seats, while the NPP retained 3 seats.

Chairman Bunas leadership marked by strategic planning, grassroots mobilization, and a clear vision to counter the NPP’s inroads into the region.
The task of winning all 11 seats was daunting, considering the caliber of NPP MPs defending the remaining three seats:
Hon. Amidu Chinnia (Sissala East) – Deputy Minister for Sanitation
Hon. Ambrose Dery (Nandom) – Former Minister for Interior
Hon. Bright Baligi (Lambussie)
Despite the challenges, Chairman Bunas and his team executed a well-coordinated campaign, engaging communities and addressing voter concerns. The result was a sweeping victory, with the NDC reclaiming Sissala East, Nandom, and Lambussie constituencies, thereby securing all 11 parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region.
The victory is more than just numbers; it is a testament to the resilience and dedication of Chairman Bunas and his executives. The NDC’s ability to rally support across the region highlights the effectiveness of their campaign strategy and the party’s commitment to addressing local issues.
Chairman Bunas’ leadership has breathed life into the NDC in the region solidifying its position as a political powerhouse and setting a standard for future elections.
With this victory, the focus now shifts to delivering on campaign promises and ensuring that the trust of the electorate is upheld. The NDC must capitalize on this momentum to strengthen its hold in the region and work toward national development goals.
