To commemorate World Sight Day 2024, Bliss Eye Care, a private eye clinic based in Wa, provided free eye screenings to 1,468 children in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
During the screening, 205 children were found to have normal vision, while 1,182 required medical attention for various sight issues.
Notably, 46 children were diagnosed with refractive errors and received free eyeglasses, while 35 others were identified with conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma.
Dr. Zakaria Al-hassan Balure, an optometrist and Medical Superintendent of Bliss Eye Care, emphasized the importance of parents being proactive about their children’s eye health, stating that proper sight is crucial for academic success and overall well-being.
He urged parents to go beyond providing school materials and ensure their children’s vision is regularly checked.
Visual impairments can have significant effects on a person’s physical, emotional, social, and economic well-being, underscoring the importance of early detection and treatment.
