Fuseina Fuseini, a 42-year-old teacher from Madina SDA Basic School in the Greater Accra Region, has been honored as Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher at the 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize awards.
The prestigious recognition, which coincided with World Teachers Day, acknowledges her remarkable contributions to the nation’s education system.
The awards ceremony, held in Kumasi, celebrated the theme “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.” It highlighted the importance of teachers in shaping the country’s future, while addressing key challenges in the educational sector.
At the event, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum announced the government’s strict measures to ensure zero tolerance for indiscipline in Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Ghana. The move comes in response to a recent stabbing incident at O’Reilly Senior High School, which raised concerns about discipline in schools.
Dr. Adutwum emphasized the need for students to maintain good conduct, warning that disruptive behavior could impact their future educational opportunities.
He further noted that the government is working on policies such as deans of discipline and testimonial requirements for SHS graduates to ensure discipline is upheld.
