Rafiq Salam, the Upper West Regional Correspondent for Multimedia’s Joy News, has been named the Upper West Regional Best Journalist at the inaugural edition of the Upper West Journalists Awards, organized by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

The awards ceremony was held at the Dellagio Hotel on September 7, 2024, and was graced by several dignitaries, including the Paramount Chief of Nandom Traditional Area, who chaired the occasion.

Rafiq Salam’s impactful report on the lack of health logistics in the Wa West District resonated widely, prompting the Edward Boakye Trust Fund to donate logistics worth GHC 35,000 to support the district. This outstanding piece also earned him the title of Best Health Reporter for the 2023 journalism year.

In his acceptance speech, Salam expressed his gratitude to his employer, the Multimedia Group, his subordinates, and his wife for their unwavering support throughout his career journey.

The awards event also recognized other exceptional journalists for their contributions:

Best Human Rights/Gender Reporter: Lydia Darlington Forjour (Ghanaian Times Newspaper)

Tourism Reporter: Ibrahim Wangara (TV3)

Best Agric Reporter: Philip Tengzu (Ghana News Agency)

Citation for Excellence in Climate Change Reporting: Philip Tengzu

Rural Reporter: Ibrahim Wangara (TV3 Upper West)

Honorary Awards: Badgin Dougah Pobia

Best Education Reporter: Lydia Darlington Forjour

The awards celebrated the outstanding contributions of journalists in the Upper West Region, with Rafiq Salam receiving the ultimate accolade as the Overall Best Journalist for 2023.
