Prime suspects in the murder of Alhaji Mutala Mahama, a respected community leader in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region, have been arrested. Among the suspects is a childhood friend of the deceased, who hails from Limanyiri, a suburb of the municipality.

Alhaji Mutala Mahama, a 55-year-old chief and the secretary of the Wa Customary Land Secretariat, was brutally murdered at his family house in Suriyir during the early hours of Thursday, 11th April 2024. The gruesome discovery was made after residents noticed his absence throughout the day. When a concerned individual went to check on him at his family house, they found him killed in his room.

The murder has sent shockwaves through the community, as Alhaji Mutala Mahama was a well-known and respected figure in the area. His death has left many in the community grieving and demanding justice.

The two suspects, one of whom was a childhood friend of the deceased, have been taken into custody and are expected to be arraigned before the court.
