Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has secured the number one position on the ballot paper for the highly anticipated 2024 general elections.

The balloting exercise, conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) at its headquarters on Friday, saw the major political parties vying for favorable positions on the ballot.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Dramani Mahama, picked the number eight position on the ballot. This slot has historically been associated with symbolism in past elections.

Other notable ballot positions include the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) in the second slot, followed by the Ghana National Party (GNP) at number three. The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) secured the fourth spot, while the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) took number five.

The National Democratic Party (NDP) picked the sixth position, with the Convention People’s Party (CPP) claiming the seventh slot. The All People’s Congress (APC) will appear ninth on the ballot.

Despite initial disagreements among party representatives during the exercise, the balloting process concluded successfully after over an hour. The final ballot order sets the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2024 general election.
